Challenge
A kindergarten must be "bubble-wrapped" without feeling like a cage. Balancing the need for a secure, injury-free environment with the child's need to take "safe risks" and explore is a major architectural hurdle.

Impact
The finished home embodies balance—anchored to the hillside while opening fully to its environment. Layered terraces create multiple vantage points, allowing residents to experience the landscape from different perspectives throughout the day. Interiors are defined by warm woods, stone, and simple geometries that frame, rather than compete with, the views. The design achieved the clients’ vision of a home that is both sanctuary and stage, giving them privacy while still feeling deeply connected to the hillside. Casa Ladera has since been featured in several architectural journals as a model of residential design integrated with challenging terrain.
